DREAM DRIVE EVENT -
To celebrate this momentous occasion as well as this iconic drive’s 84 years, Visit California – in partnership with Caltrans, Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Visit SLO CAL – will host an epic “Dream Drive” on August 9, 2018. The Dream Drive will assemble a convoy of classic automobiles from 1934 to 2018 for a caravan drive down the coast, from Monterey County to San Luis Obispo County. The Dream Drive will kick off with a ceremonial pace car-led lap around the famed WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca before heading down the coast. The event will conclude with a once-in-a-lifetime Golden Hour dinner and car rally in the shadow of Morro Rock.

San Simeon Cove is home to many marine birds, fish, and mammals, and many migratory species come to feed in its nutrient-rich waters in the summer. At the pier, we will use binoculars to explore the inhabitants of San Simeon Bay, followed by collecting and analyzing water samples and plankton to examine water quality. This event is open to anyone & everyone, and tickets are $45 if you want to play in the bocce ball tournament and earn those bragging rights, or $38 if you want to come to watch and cheer on your team. Perseid Meteor Part - 8 pm
Join us at the Cambria Middle School at 2850 Schoolhouse Lane on Sunday, August 12 to experience the Perseid meteor shower on the prime viewing night. When conditions are right the Perseids are ranked as the best meteor shower of the year, and this year conditions are just right. There is a thin crescent moon that sets just after sunset assuring a dark sky for optimum meteor viewing. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the night. The Milky Way will be overhead, and the planets Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars will be visible. Bring a folding chair or blanket, a pair of binoculars and some warm clothes. We will provide guided tours of the night sky and some telescopes for planetary viewing. We will also provide hot chocolate, apple cider and some meteor observing snacks. Since the event is taking place on school property, adult beverages and dogs are not permitted. Children are welcome. A donation of $5. per adult to help defray the cost of the party and to support the Beautify Cambria Dark Skies initiative would be greatly appreciated.

Celebrate the Ranch, ¡Celebrar El Rancho! Spanish Docent Walks - 1 pm-4 pm Shamel Park, 455 Windsor Blvd, Cambria, CA
Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve (FFRP) was awarded a grant from the James Irvine Foundation to support its education programs in reaching the Hispanic community on the Central Coast. Since 2005, FFRP has hosted monthly docent walks on the ranch and because of this grant, for the first time ever, the organization will be able to conduct three walks in Spanish. Please join the organization and community for this exciting occasion in expanding environmental education and stewardship to include Spanish. Attendees will meet at the local park, enjoy food, beverage and be socializing and then be transported to the Bluff Trail to start the docent-led walk. There will be three 30-minute walks led by expert docent and PhD in Ecology, John Menke. Participants will learn about seaweed, sea mammals, birds, and the plants along the Bluff Trail. This is a family-friendly event and presentations will be in Spanish.

Walk the Forest Loop Trail of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve with a docent from Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. Enjoy our Monterey Pine forest as we learn about the plants, animals, human history and the trails in this special part of Cambria. The walk is about 2.5 miles long with very little elevation gain.
