Tide pool Field Trips -
Learn about the mystery of San Simeon Cove by beachcombing with marine biologists. Find out what causes high and low tides and explore the plant and animal communities that live between high and low tides. Northern Elephant Seal Presentation -
The elephant seal rookery at Piedras Blancas is a dramatic and interesting place to visit year-round. However, the most exciting season is during the winter months when the seals come to shore to birth and mate. Come join Friends of the Elephant Seal docent, Phil Adams, to learn about the amazing life of the Northern Elephant Seal on land and at sea. After the presentation, you will be able to drive to the elephant seal rookery viewing area only 4.5 miles north of the Center which is manned by knowledgeable docents from FES. Participants will meet at the Coastal Discovery Center in San Simeon (across from the entrance to Hearst Castle Visitors Center, by the pier) each Saturday, Jan 20 through March 10th, from 10-10:45 am. This exhibit features the artworks of the CUSD students of all grade levels. Live performances by the students in the CCA Theatre will be included in the reception, all happening on Friday, March 8, 5:30-7PM.

FOREST LOOP WALK - 10:00 am - Noon
Walk the Forest Loop Trail of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve with a docent. Enjoy our Monterey Pine forest as we learn about the plants, animals, human history and the trails in this special part of Cambria. The walk is about 2.5 miles long with very little elevation gain. Bring water, shoes that protect the toes, and wear long pants to help protect from poison oak. Children welcome with adult supervision. Saturday with Stephen.
